Czech Perinatology Hands to Cambodia<\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The project aims to help reduce mortality among newborns and children under the age of five, as well as maternal mortality, by improving access to antenatal and postnatal care services and qualified healthcare professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The care system is based on experience gained in the Czech Republic while taking into account local staffing and material resources, as well as the expertise of healthcare professionals. Examples of project activities include the introduction of screening examinations, educational workshops and the development of mobile software applications for educating healthcare professionals and the general public and for collecting hospital data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unique NAVA Ventilator<\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Breathing Support Tailored to Each Baby! A New Ventilator at the U Apolin\u00e1\u0159e Maternity Hospital Helps Babies Weighing as Little as 500 Grams Breathe.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key aspect of caring for premature babies is ensuring adequate respiratory support and oxygenation of the entire body. Mechanical ventilation has been used in neonatology for around 40 years.<\/strong>However, conventional ventilators cannot respond to the rapidly changing condition of a premature baby\u2019s delicate lungs. This can sometimes lead to situations where inadequate ventilation causes lung damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The unique NAVA (Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist) ventilator<\/strong> provides newborns with individualised respiratory support and can adapt rapidly to their needs and current condition. This is made possible by a special sensor which, when inserted into the baby\u2019s oesophagus, sensitively detects spontaneous breathing activity and allows the ventilator to respond quickly when difficulties arise. As a result, mechanical ventilation is more effective and precise, with a lower risk of complications.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A long-term loan of the device, worth CZK 1.5 million<\/strong> , was arranged by the Vita et Futura Foundation <\/strong>thanks to financial support from the Be Charity Foundation, Barbora Nesvadbov\u00e1 and Pavl\u00edna Saudkov\u00e1.<\/strong>. The new ventilator will be used by the Department of Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Neonatology at the General University Hospital in Prague and the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University,<\/strong> in its neonatal intensive care unit. It will facilitate the care of extremely premature newborns with birth weights starting at 500 grams.<\/strong> During the five-year loan period, the device will also support important research focused on monitoring, measuring and evaluating the respiratory activity of the newborn diaphragm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
